How to use Sucrabase

WHAT IS SUCRABASE?

Sucrabase is a ready to use cosmetic gel base which can be used to create a number of products just by simply stirring in a few simple ingredients at room temperature.

There are 3 variables available, Sucrabase C, SF and SF BIO which is 98.3% certified organic.

Sucrabase is a stable micro-emulsion and when water is added the mix changes into a cream of a light lotion.

FORMULATING WITH SUCRABASE

  • Use between 1 – 99% at room temperature.
  • Formulation must remain between pH 4-8 at all times.
  • Oils can be added at a level of up to 5% by weight of Sucrabase and are simply stirred into the gel.
  • Glycerine can be added up to 25% to provide a honey like texture.
  • Powders and exfoliating particles can be added to change the colour texture of the gel.
  • Water and water gels or water based extracts will emulsify the gel and form an emulsion.

Sucragel Formulation Guide

How to use Sucragel

WHAT IS SUCRAGEL?

Sucragel is a cold process emulsifier for oil in water emulsions and also works as an oil thickener. It comes in liquid form making it easy to use. Oily gels formed with Sucragel will instantly emulsify on contact with water.

Sucragel holds oil in place in a stable micro-emulsion and when water is added the mix changes into a cream or a light lotion giving countless possibilities. There are 4 variables available, Sucragel CF, AP, AOF and AOF BIO which is 94% certified organic.

MAKING AN OILY GEL WITH SUCRAGEL

• Use 1:4 ratio of Sucragel to oil phase for Sucragel CF and AOF/AOF BIO.

• Use a 1:5 ratio of Sucragel to oil phase for Sucragel AP V2.

• For CF & AP, any oils can be gelled (including Silicones, sun filters, butters, waxes, esters, synthetic oils).

• For AOF & AOF BIO, only vegetable oils and vegetable based butters and waxes can be gelled.

• Add the oil very slowly into the Sucragel using a propeller stirrer on a fast speed. The oily gel will thicken rapidly and the stirring speed and height of the stirrer will need to be increased as more oil is added.

• Formulation must remain between pH 4-8 at all times.

• Can be used at either room temperature or at temperatures up to 80ºC.

MAKING AN EMULSION WITH SUCRAGEL

• Use Sucragel at 5-10% in the oil phase.

• Sucragel can be used as a cold process emulsifier in the oil phase and the emulsion made in the usual way (add to the water phase under homogenisation). Often a co-emulsifier is also needed and also a water thickener in the water phase to provide viscosity.

• Alternatively, you can gel the oil phase of your emulsion and then dilute the oily gel with the water phase. The final emulsion will have a micro-emulsion aspect and will be more stable by going through the oily gel intermediate.

Please refer to our training video, frequently asked questions and our trouble shooting flowchart for more information on how to use Sucragel to create a wide range of products.

How to use Sucrablend

USING SUCRABLEND SP V2

Sucrablend is made from two sucrose esters to be used in conjunction with Sucragel to improve the high temperature stability of oily gel formulations.

Sucrablend is a powder and must be heated in the Sucragel at 75C until it is completely dissolved before creating the oily gel. Sucrablend does not affect the clarity or viscosity of an oily gel formulation, it just structures the gel to make it more robust and less prone to oil leaching at high temperatures.

Please refer to our training video, frequently asked questions and our trouble shooting flowchart for more information on how to use Sucragel to create a wide range of products.

How to use Sucramulse

WHAT IS SUCRAMULSE?

Sucramulse is an emulsifier which comes as a waxy solid in pellet form. It is an all-in-one oil in water emulsifier and has been specifically formulated to be used on its own as the only emulsifier in your formulation. It creates an emulsion with a luxurious skin feel and improved moisturisation.

MAKING AN EMULSION WITH SUCRAMULSE

• 2-6% for oil in water emulsions (2% for thin lotions and 6% for thick body butters)

• Melt in the oil phase at 75C and then create the emulsion in a standard way using a homogeniser.

• Oil phase can be from 5-35%

• Water phase can be from 65% - 95%

• Recommended to use a stabilising agent/water thickener in the water phase for high temperature stability.

• The formulation must remain between pH 4-8 at all times.

How to use Sucrathix VX

USING SUCRATHIX VX

Sucrathix comes in powder form and is a cosmos approved stabilising agent for thin lotions, spray products and wet wipe solutions. It does not add much viscosity to your final product however it will provide excellent stability especially at high temperatures. The water gel formed is opaque and has thixotropic properties.

• Use between 0.8-2.5% in the water phase.

• Disperse under high sheer mixing. (Mix with glycerine to aid dispersion if necessary)

• Can be used at room temperature or at temperatures up to 80C

• Formulation must remain between pH 5-11 at all times.

How to use Sucraclear HC-31

WHAT IS SUCRACLEAR?

Sucraclear comes in powder form and is a water thickener which can produce thick crystal clear gels in water with    thixotropic properties.

FORMULATING WITH SUCRACLEAR

• Use between 0.5-2.5% in the water phase. Heat to 70ºC followed by high sheer mixing,

• Formulation must remain between pH 4-11 at all times.

• Can hold up to 30% alcohol using a 1.5% water gel but clarity will be compromised at 12%.

• Able to suspend beads and exfoliating particles.

HIPEgel Formulation Guide Download PDF

How to use HIPEgels

HIPEgel Aqua

Use Level: 5-8%

How to use: Use HIPEgel Aqua in the oil phase.  Weigh the water phase separately and add it slowly to the oil phase under rapid overhead stirring.  A thick emulsion will be formed.  Room temperature processing can be done if there are no ingredients to be melted.

Formulation Tips: Use up to 5% extra oil in the HIPEgel phase – avoid more than 1.5% Triglycerides as these make the emulsion thick and rubbery (a list of highly compatible oils is available).  Use 1% MgSO4 and 5% Glycerine in the water phase to add stability and texture to the formulation.  Water or oil soluble actives, texture enhancers, perfumes, preservatives and colours can be added at the beginning in the appropriate phase or at the end of the process.

HIPEgel Oleo

Use Level: 5-8%

How to use: Use HIPEgel Oleo in the water phase.  Weigh the oil phase separately and add it slowly to the water phase under rapid overhead stirring.  A thick gel/cream will be formed.  Room temperature processing can be done if there are no ingredients to be melted.

Formulation Tips: Use variable amounts of water (1-5%) and Glycerine (0-10%) in the HIPEgel phase –  more glycerine and less water gives a transparent gel. Different oils gives different textures and viscosities to the formulation.  Water or oil soluble actives, texture enhancers, perfumes, preservatives and colours can be added at the beginning in the appropriate phase or at the end of the process.
